I think it's important to clarify a few facts from the letter of March 15, concerning parking at the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough (left).

Before Sainsbury's appeared on the scene, all the staff were in the envious position of parking on-site to the detriment of visitors and patients.

When Sainsbury's built the store with a massive "free" car park at last patients had improved parking. But then the new hospital was built and due to the fact NHS staff filled it up, a compromise was made allowing part of the car park to be available to the NHS.

When the car park on the NHS site was finally opened it was provided for patients and hospital visitors.

Why are the staff of the hospital kicking up a fuss? Do they consider themselves special cases in having parking provided for them?

Most people working in Bromley or up in London don't get a choice.

I think now is the time based on the improvements to the transport system with bus lanes provided by Ken Livingstone and Transport for London to say any member of staff wanting a parking bay must pay £500 a year for the privilege, with all money raised going to fund public transport.

It is time to get on the buses and bikes and out of your cars.
