NO BENEFIT: Brian Dawe is right (Pensioner Wants To Fight 2012 Tax, News Shopper, March 1) to protest Ken Livingstone's levy for the 2012 Olympics. It is a principle of local authority finance long-term investments should be paid for by the beneficiaries. This is done using money borrowed by the authority and repaid over the years by the citizens who enjoy the facility. This levy is doubly unfair on pensioners such as Brian, who will get little or no benefit from this expenditure and are probably among the least able to pay. Anyone believing Livingstone about the benefits of the Games and his financial figures is naive.
