GET THE TUBE: In the run up to the May local elections, there is a campaign running to abolish the tolls on the Dartford tunnel and bridge on the grounds that the capital cost of these crossings has been recouped. This idea is being promoted by UKIP. Undoubtedly if this campaign was successful, it would be some advantage to business and industry in the boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham. The request is against the trend evidenced by the most recent moves to increase and extend the congestion charge in central London and to increase charges for motorways use. Overall, Forest Hill and Sydenham would be better served by speeding up the introduction of the East London line.
