I applaud the stand made by Dave Brown in his campaign against the iniquitus speed cameras.

The current speed limits stem from a system which replaced a man with a red flag and relate to conditions long-since gone.

If the limits are to be widely observed they must be realistic and honestly administered.

As a driver with more than 50 years' experience, I have no more wish to see accidents occur than the next person.

But my experience tells me speed is rarely the cause of an accident and cameras only work in the varified atmosphere of biased statistics produced by camera partnerships and endorsed by all the usual suspects.

Just in case your readers think this letter sounds like sour grapes, let me assure you in 50 years I have driven close to a million miles and I have a clean licence.
