I AGREE with Frederick Whispers from Erith (Motor Mouth, News Shopper, December 15), cycle lanes are a waste of taxpayers' money.
There are cycle lanes on the footpath along Sevenoaks Way, St Mary Cray, and Bromley Common, Bromley, and I never see cyclists using them, as they seem to prefer the road.
Surely if there is a safe lane for them to use they would want to use it. Cyclists fought to get these lanes put in so they should use them.
Common sense tells you if you jump red lights you are going to get hit by another road user. A lot of people seem to lose all common sense when they get on a bicycle.
Drivers are always being told to look out for cyclists, so cyclists should look out for other road users.
It's time cyclists faced the same penalties other road users face for not obeying the rules.
