WASTING TIME: In regard to the story about single and double summer time (Bring Me Sunshine, News Shopper, December 21). By all means advance the clocks by one hour, or however much makes best use of the limited daylight, in winter. However, let us then keep them that way through the summer. There are more than 20 watches, clocks, automatic time switches and programmers I have to reset. This can take nearly an hour and I have to do it twice a year. If you multiply this by the number of households in the country it must be a lot of person hours which could be put to better use.

NO CHANGE: With reference to "Bring Me Sunshine (News Shopper, December 21) Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) plus one hour was tried back in the 1970s and it was awful. In the winter you got up and went to work when it was pitch black. You then left work and went home when it was pitch black. You cannot make' daylight, if you make evenings lighter you make mornings darker. GMT plus two hours simply means we will not have those glorious, bright early summer mornings. What is the point of Greenwich Mean Time if Greenwich does not recognise it?

GOOD MOVE: Reading the article on the News Shopper front page regarding lighter evenings (Bring Me Sunshine, December 21), I was pleased to hear how this would benefit everyone. It would make us all feel a lot better in health and mind. I give my full support to all who is involved and hope the Government will agree.

BUS LANES: Let's keep Bromley's beautiful bus lanes, make a few more on key routes and help to make our vastly improved public transport even better. This way we can keep the roads safer, the air cleaner, our bodies healthier and no longer have the ridiculous spectacle of 30 or 40 people in one vehicle being held up by a similar number stretching down half a mile of the highway, and all because they all believe there is no life outside of their cars.
Christopher Idle, Bromley
BAD IDEA: At present parts of Chelsfield Lane are a rat run. Bearing this in mind, the last thing Chelsfield Lane needs is more high-density development, which will lead to an increase in traffic.
