DARK AGES: With reference to Bring Me Sunshine (News Shopper, December 21). Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) plus one hour was tried back in the 70s and it was awful. In the winter you got up and went to work in the pitch black then left work and went home in the dark. You cannot make' daylight. If you make evenings lighter you make mornings darker. GMT plus two hours simply means we won't have those glorious, bright early summer mornings and what's the point of Greenwich Mean Time if Greenwich doesn't recognise it?

SUNNY DISPOSITION: What a wonderful suggestion (Bring Me Sunshine, December 21). I've been hoping and praying for this for years. Why we can't have it beats me, the mere thought of putting the clocks back is so depressing, especially for the likes of me on my own and many, many more the young also. Do it and do it now you'll find the doctors' surgeries a lot emptier. Light and laughter is a good tonic.
