IT WAS pleasing to note the survey Biggin Hill Airport: The Case for the Community emphasises some of the arguments Bromley Friends of the Earth has been making for some years.
Understandably, residents are already worried by the noise from take-offs and landings but do they recognise Biggin Hill's activities contribute to the national problem we have in trying to cut greenhouse gas emissions?
Aviation is the worst polluter of all, not only because a high level of noxious fumes are emitted as engines are warmed up, but also because exhaust gases emitted at altitude create far greater damage and thus affect climate change.
How much worse will it be if larger jets are allowed to use the airport?
Added to this will be the air pollution caused by the extra road traffic and congestion which will be created by heightened activity.
May I just remind everyone where Biggin Hill Airport is situated the majority of it lies within the green belt.
