YOUR correspondent Mr Arche, is correct when he says Petts Wood roads were planned to include a bridge over the railway, joining Petts Wood Road to Frankswood Avenue (Track Span Plan To Clear Clogged Roads, News Shopper, November 9).
Perhaps after 72 years, residents should discuss the pros and cons of a bridge.
Among the advantages would be the elimination of right-angle turns at the awkward Petts Wood Road/Tudor Way and Tudor Way/Queensway junction and a great reduction in the traffic along the relatively narrow Tudor Way.
Tall vehicles (which cannot use the low bridges at Station Hill and Tudor Way) would be diverted from the unsuitable Crofton Lane.
Residents of Tudor Way and Queensway would enjoy a reduction in traffic but those at the western end of Petts Wood Road would suffer a traffic increase and there would probably be a loss of some parking.
A bridge and associated works would be extremely expensive and the response of the relevant authorities to such a scheme would be "we can't afford it" or "not in the foreseeable future".
We are one of the richest countries in the world and we can afford it.
If we want it, we must fight for it until we win. It is impossible to satisfy everyone but my own feeling is the advantages would be considerable.
