Two years ago many parents, teachers and staff protested against the amalgamation of Upland Infant and Junior schools.
It was a hard-fought campaign, which we sadly lost.
On November 18 the school held an assembly to open the new school building. All the children attended along with invited guests.
I was one of those guests and even though I had been strongly against the amalgamation, I went in a conciliatory spirit.
I have two children at the school and both their happiness and education are very important to me and I believe we all have to work together to make our new school special.
I was therefore deeply dismayed when Bexley mayor John Shepheard used the occasion to remind us of the campaign in an offensive and dismissive manner.
I would like to remind him and any other members of Bexley Council a primary school assembly is not the place to make a political speech and the protest made two years ago was most definitely by a majority of parents.
I (and I am not on my own) will certainly be protesting if the council does not do something, and quickly, about the pond we have to call a playground.
