It appears the point has been missed again concerning the debate put forward by some gays when the Bible becomes introduced into the equation.
A 'gay Christian', as the writer of this week's letter (Gay people want to declare their love) claims to be, is in fact a contradiction in terms, as the Bible categorically condemns homosexuality, as it does repeatedly theft, false worship and lies.
The point though, is that if one purports to be a Christian: an imitator of Jesus Christ - who, by the way never endorsed homosexuality - then God's word, the Bible, should be the highest moral authority and its word honoured.
The writer suggests that it's not easy to make a change from homosexual leanings and again, in the Bible, at 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, it is verse 11 here that shows God's compassion by means of Paul's encouraging this very change. Evidently, then, some Christians had had homosexual proclivities, so it shows it IS possible to change.
The Bible even recommends that if we are doing something which is out of harmony with God's word, and that if we genuinely wish to please him, that we earnestly pray for help with it - and that again could be thieving, smoking, homosexuality etc. And, that goes for all of us.
It seems that whoever wrote the above letter - and somebody tell me please why the names of contributors supporting the gay cause appear almost always to be withheld - prefers to pick and choose the scriptures he or she wishes to obey while justifying his ways by either laying in to the messenger, and /or deflecting the argument by suggesting, in this case, that I concern myself with worrying about teenage pregnancies, AIDs and such like.
For the record, the Bible has no qualm with married partners expressing their sexual love for each other - as long, that is, as they remain of opposite sexes. Genesis 2. That is God's word. A Christian will not argue with it.
