I am surprised at the lack of local opposition expressed about the atrocious scheme to bring three lanes of traffic onto the roads of Bexley and Greenwich.
The Londoner newspaper states 79 per cent of us are in favour of allowing our already overloaded roads to become regularly gridlocked to enable a minority of people and commercial concerns to cross the Thames a little quicker.
I cannot see how this equates with the area now having the poorest quality of air in the south-east.
Surely we all understand the concept of reducing exhaust emissions through less use of these conventional vehicles, and trying to improve conditions for asthma and other respiratory conditions in our boroughs.
The Docklands Light Railway Woolwich extension will soon provide emission-free transport under the Thames and into the north side of the Gateway for job opportunities. Why not utilise this to extend it along the south side of the Gateway development area, so that Woolwich is not the only DLR destination available for job seekers from Essex?
I have yet to meet the 79 per cent in favour, nor heard much opposition!
