I AGREE with what Mrs Thomas said in her letter (Closures Don't Help Vulnerable People, News Shopper, November 2).
The two day centres referred to used to be centres of excellence.
Valuing People did not state all day centres should be closed but day services for people with learning difficulties should be looked at and improved where necessary.
Many councils chose to keep their good centres for those people who wanted to stay and improve the services for those who were able and wished to be helped to work. Bromley chose to close them and sell off the sites.
Leesons Centre, where my daughter has been happy for many years, has had a policy of using the community facilities (swimming, college, bowling) but with the safeguard of having staff with them, knowing they will return to familiar surroundings and friends.
I have always found Leesons staff caring and long-serving but I'm afraid many have now left and who can blame them?
