DON'T BELIEVE IT: Leaflets handed out with the new black recycling boxes were emblazoned with the slogan "if only all councils recycled like Dartford". Sceptics who suspect this may be misleading piece of self-congratulation need only do a simple internet search for recycling and English councils. The very first hit is letsrecycle.com, whose league table shows that in 2003/04 Dartford came 286th out of 393 local authorities in England for recyling. I suggest we should be very wary of council propaganda.

GREAT MARKET: I would like to congratulate all those involved in bringing the farmers' market to Dartford. I was very fortunate in that although I could not go to the market due to work commitments, my mum was able to do so. We have therefore eaten even better knowing our purchases have been purchased locally. The venison was delicious and the vegetables tasted pleasantly different. I do hope this becomes a regular market. It is a great boost for Dartford.
