In response to L Williams' letter (We Don't Want This Cult' In Our Cinema, November 2), I would like to clarify a number of points about UCKG, its intentions for the ABC cinema in Bromley Road and the benefits we aim to bring.
First, we are a mainstream Christian church in the Pentecostal tradition. Cults are informal religious or quasi-religious belief systems often regarded as unorthodox. So by definition UCKG cannot be, and never was, a cult.
Our vision for the former ABC cinema is to establish a UCKG HelpCentre with a cinema on the first floor, leased to Orion Cinemas.
HelpCentres provide social, educational and cultural facilities for people of any faith or none.
Our proposal satisfies current Government planning policy. The feedback we received from traders and individuals was our HelpCentre would be welcome.
