THE writer of the letter Who Are They? (News Shopper, Novemmber 16) assumes those who tell us to ban Christmas and tell us what hymns we can or cannot sing, are immigrants.

This is not so. Those who have the power to call Christmas a winter season, for example, are well-meaning but confused councillors who are afraid of offending Muslims and other religious minorities.

These councillors are invariably secular, having no faith of their own.

Muslims, Jews, Sikhs do not object to things Christian but respect them.

As to the hymns, it was the Archbishop of Canterbury no less, who said he apologised for the church foisting English hymns on other cultures in the 19th Century.
