READING Cyclist Smashes Into Toddler On Pavement (News Shopper, November 16) finally stirred me to write about my cycling experiences.
I cycle a five-minute journey each day to college along Station Road, Sidcup, into Burnt Oak Lane.
Most of the time I cycle on the pavement.
Why? Because on the road I get cut up, ignored and shouted at.
Most motorists do not drive with any consideration for cyclists.
I am supposed to be a mind-reader as far as indicating is concerned.
This must also be the same for pedestrians.
Vehicles often pull out without looking out for cyclists or pedestrians.
As I am also a pedestrian I feel I am more aware of people when I am cycling on the pavement and often slow down or stop for tight situations.
So, until there is a safe haven such as a cycle lane, I am afraid I will, most of the time, be forced to ride on pavements but also being aware of the hazards.
