Members of Bromley and Beckenham Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) attended a White Poppy Ceremony at Bromley War Memorial, Martins Hill on Remembrance Sunday to pay their respects to the victims of all wars. They were joined by representatives from Lewisham and Greenwich CND.
A wreath of white and red poppies was laid and speakers covered such issues as the vast profits made from war by arms manufacturers, the turmoil caused by the continued illegal occupation of Iraq, the importance of making poverty history and remembering Ken Sarawiwa who died campaigning for justice in Nigeria.
The group also remembered the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki since it is the 60th anniversary of the dropping of the atom bomb.
The white poppy is a symbol of the peace movement's determination to influence governments to change things for the better.
