Up and down the country councils have been allowing the erosion of public parks and even selling off parts of our Victorian parks.
At the same time schools have sought to bolster their budgets by selling their playing fields.
In response the 120th Liberal assembly meeting in Wolverhampton passed a strong motion opposing the relentless disposal of public open spaces and agreed to campaign nationally for a changes in planning law.
We are calling for there to be a legal presumption against the disposal of public open spaces, and only in limited circumstances, where the potential developers can satisfy a number of strict criteria should disposal even be considered.
We believe that parks belong to people - not politicians.
Liberals are resolved to make our parks safe from the bulldozers forever, not just until the day after the next round of local elections!
Cllr Steve Radford, president of The Liberal Party
