NEARLY 10 years ago you published an article under the title Fight For Fare Deal. It outlined my campaign to get cheaper or free travel for Dartford pensioners.
I was seeking the same concessions as those enjoyed by pensioners in neighbouring Sevenoaks.
At this time they had a flat fare of 20p for each journey which started or ended within the district.
Thus they could reach places well outside of their borough such as Gravesham, Dartford and beyond.
Sadly this flat-rate fare is no longer available to them.
A few years ago Dartford Council announced their 20p flat-rate scheme.
Unfortunately, it is limited to the Dartford area travel beyond and you pay the full fare.
The scheme was of no use to pensioners living on the borders in New Barn and Southfleet.
There is no direct service to Dartford centre and most of us, with no transport of our own, shop at nearby Northfleet and Gravesend.
It appears unless changes are made before next April, we will have to pay full fare to visit our grandchildren and great-grandchildren who live in New Ash Green, just a few miles away.
I appeal to all pensioners to ask their councillors to press for agreements with neighbouring boroughs in order to make next April's scheme worthwhile.
