EARLIER this year, France was fined £13.75m for "20 years of flouting EU fishing rules". This is a derisory sum for the damage caused.
When I visit the Carrefour supermarket at Calais, I am appalled to see Dover sole openly on sale at the fish counter, none of them over three inches in length.
If it has taken this long to bring France to book, what incentive is there for a change of attitude?
