REGARDING Mr Ashford's letter (We Could Make Society Better, News Shopper, November 2).
He asks "what is the point of having these (cycle) lanes in the first place?" I would say none whatsoever.
In all the years we have had them I have only seen them as a blatant waste of our council tax, along with all the other road clutter which the council inflicts on us, such as excessive use of white stripes, traffic islands, mini roundabouts, bus lanes and traffic calming measures.
All of these are the cause of our congested roads around the borough.
How would Mr Ashford like it if he had a cycle lane with double yellow lines outside his house, stopping any visitors from parking?
We have too many yellow lines, unless the council is going to replace them with pay-to-park spaces as they have done in many other locations.
