I HAVE just returned from the official opening of the new Erith Sports Centre.
With two top athletes and the mayor attending and around 30 to 40 other VIP guests, you would have thought someone would have told the community there was to be free use of facilities all weekend.
But take away the VIP guests and you would have been lucky to find 20 members of the general public aimlessly hanging around waiting.
It seems no-one had bothered to inform schools or residents the weekend events were taking place.
What a shame. The new sports centre has much to offer, free or not.
I felt embarrassed for the sports centre staff who had arranged free classes and not one person showed up for any of them.
Good luck to the sports centre but please be more organised.
