A VIETNAMESE illegal immigrant (Youth Grew 270 Cannabis Plants, News Shopper, June 1) arrived here in November last year.
By December he was arrested for growing cannabis in one property and tending another batch in another property, illegally running up an electricity bill of £7,500.
His grandmother paid for him to be smuggled into this country, so why should she not pay the outstanding electricity bill?
Judge John Samuels thinks five months on remand was punishment enough and set him free.
Apparently this made the illegal immigrant cry. What, with joy? Why wasn't he deported?
This country has gone mad! It is us, the taxpayers, who should be crying.
