I AM writing in regard to the letter from Jim Mulroe (Horror Stories, News Shopper, May 25).

I have to take issue with some of the comments made concerning the professionalism and standards at University Hospital, Lewisham.

Having two sporting teenage sons, I have had to use the hospital twice for two minor breaks in the past 12 months.

On both occasions the treatment they received was exemplary and the hospital staff were committed and friendly.

Far more seriously, one of my lads contracted the exceptionally rare, and extremely serious, Weil's disease in March.

The level of care afforded then was superb.

Of course staff were working under considerable pressure but the speed of diagnosis, professionalism and expertise was outstanding.

Nothing is perfect all the time. Some of you may be aware I present the breakfast show on LBC 97.3 every weekday morning and often hear about the problems of hospitals across the capital.

Take it from me, there's no shortage of challenges facing this part of London.

However, we can rest assured we have a first-class hospital with a dedicated and hard-working staff.
