Plans to build a development in Sydenham which would include extensive new retail space, served by over-generous car parking lay the foundations for a boring city plagued by obesity.
The final insult is a drive-through fast-food restaurant.
Designated to provide maximum calories for minimum effort, these restaurants lead us down a path of poor health, increased car use and the death of the High Street.
This application has yet to be decided on and if Lewisham Council wants to maintain the vibrancy of high streets sucah as the ones in Sydenham and Deptford, then it must be refused.
