I AM tired of Nimbys (Not In My Back Yard). The amount of rubbish we throw away increases every year.
However, no-one wants to live near a landfill, an incinerator or even a recycling plant (Fears Over Waste Site, News Shopper, May 25.) Every year we use more and more electricity, yet no-one (apparently) wants to live near a wind farm or a power station.
We fly more and more, thanks to enormous tax breaks enjoyed by the aviation industry but who wants to live near an airport?
We love our mobile phones but do not want phone masts in our neighbourhood.
Spot the contradictions, anybody?
It is time for a reality check: modern life with all its excesses leads to consequences for the environment and for society.
Someone has to shoulder these consequences the price, if you like for the way we live today.
Nimbys are happy so long as its not them living near the things from which we all benefit.
