BAD TREATMENT: Recently the Renal Unit moved to a new unit attached to Darent Valley Hospital. It has 10 car parking spaces. The nurses who work from 7am to 5pm have to park in the main hospital and have to pay. Is this how we treat our nurses? There is plenty of space around the unit which could have been used for parking, instead it is given over to gardens. I am disgusted with the way nurses are treated no wonder there is a shortage. I understand this is common practice to charge nurses for parking while they are doing such a worthwhile job.

NO RIGHT TO CRITICISE: I was appalled you gave column inches in News Shopper to an apathetic letter from someone who wished to remain anonymous (Does Anyone Care?, News Shopper, May 11). Without the Liberal Party we would have no state pension and without the Labour Party we would have no NHS. The only time I have not voted was on May 3, 1979, when I was in hospital this was when the Tories were elected. If your writer did not bother to vote, they have no right to criticise the government in power.

SMARTER KERBS: I have noticed while walking along King Harolds Way and Okehampton Crescent, the pavements are looking tatty and uneven, which could result in a nasty fall. As they are long and attractive roads they would benefit greatly from smart paving slabs with smart bricks where the kerbs drop, as they have done in other boroughs. These are pleasing to the eye, especially considering the council tax we have to pay.

CAR TROUBLE: While your readers have read of a police officer exceeding 158mph with no punishment and another officer exceeding 90mph in a 30mph zone with no punishment, they may be encouraged to exceed the speed limits themselves. Recently I committed the heinous crime of parking with a disabled badge the wrong way round. I was fined £40 after appealing, as I was informed "I was abusing the badge".

WHERE ARE YOU?: I would like to ask Mr Evennett where he was in the election campaign, as he was not seen or heard of in our area. He seems to hide in a bunker for three-and-a-half-years, then at election time he appears in Bexleyheath Broadway and the shopping centre.
