With reference to the letter Taxpayers Are The Ones Who Suffer by John Soloman (News Shopper, May 18) I share his views with regard to the Olympic Bid.
The figure of 1.2m people supporting the bid does not seem worth bragging about when one considers the actual number of people living in and around London.
Now, in the more recent issue of The Londoner it states 79 per cent of Londoners support the bid.
Personally I have yet to meet anyone of that ilk and I cannot say it is a topic of great conversation.
I suppose the powers that be feel if they tell untruths often enough then people will accept it as fact.
While I appreciate the area needs development, I think it should be paid for by the Government and not London taxpayers.
If that were so I don't think I would have any objection. After all, we already support Scotland and some northern areas of England.
However, there is now a website where disapproval of the bid can be registered, which may be of interest to readers, it is: mayor-of-london. co.uk/cgi-bin/no-london-olympics-2012.pl or you can write to The IOC President, Mr Jacques Rogge, Chateau-do-Vidy, 1007 Lausanne, Switzerland.
