WE WOULD like to say a big thank-you to everyone involved in the upkeep and improvement of Lewisham’s parks and public spaces.
Along with Horniman Gardens, we now have a fantastic 11 Green Flags – an award which recognises and rewards the best green spaces in the country. The plaudits should also go to the Devonshire Road Nature Reserve and the Grove Park Nature Reserve. These sites both won a Green Pennant, which is awarded to the best green spaces which are managed by voluntary and community groups.
That Lewisham now has 11 Green Flags and two Green Pennants is such a cracking achievement.
It just goes to show what we’ve all known all along – that Lewisham’s parks are amongst the best in London.
We’re third in the table of London boroughs – coming up hard on the heels of Westminster and Hillingdon.
We’re incredibly lucky to have good, green spaces on our doorstep.
We would encourage all Lewisham residents to get out this summer and use our parks despite the rain – they’re a fantastic part of Lewisham life and best of all, they’re free to use for everyone.
In the coming years we will take our parks to the next level, keep attracting visitors and keep Lewisham as a green and pleasant borough.
Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham
Councillor Susan Wise, Cabinet Member for Customer Services
