IT IS to be hoped the significant increase in 'grow your own' is not a temporary social aberration. Indeed, it would be a wonderful thing to see it incentivised, perhaps by a discount on Council Tax for people who convert their gardens and grounds into orchards and vegetable plots, individually and collectively.
Imagine the transformation of a residential wasteland of mud, graffiti and broken supermarket trolleys into a productive mini-park of blossom, growth and natural beauty based on simple food production around a tower block.
Think about the return of our insect life, our honey bee and our birds to urban life.
This is not an impossible Utopia, but just requires belief and civic commitment to an idea.
