I AM writing to correct some errors in Matthew Jenkin's report on the closure of Charlton Lido (News Shopper, July 22).
The lido has not been "closed for 18 months". It opens for the school holidays only each summer.
Nor is there to be "a new Olympic diving facility" - the developer's plan is for a dive pool for scuba divers.
And nor did I say that "in a global recession, not everyone can afford a swimming pool". I said that, in a global recession, not everyone can afford a holiday.
As to bashing Charlton swimming club, if it were not for them then the pool would have closed years ago - they keep it running over the winter on a caretaker basis, sorting out maintenance issues and preventing vandalism by ensuring a "presence" on the site - something Greenwich Council seems singularly unwilling to do.
