CAN anybody explain the logic of the parking charges which have now been forced on any motorist who dares to use the shopping facilities in Chatterton Road? This will do nothing to help these local businesses attract passing trade in these difficult times.
Over the years we have lost the butchers, greengrocers, jewellers, off-licence, builders merchant and travel agents.
Also gone are the electrical, hardware, computer and model train shops. If any passing motorist wants to stop off for a few minutes to pop into a newsagents or make a withdrawal from the Co-Op cash dispenser, they now have to pay for the pleasure or risk a fine from traffic enforcement officers who will no doubt be hovering nearby.
This is just another tax on the motorist and the only people to benefit from it are the council.
Surely a better idea and a greater benefit to the local community would have been free parking with a time limit.
