IN REGARD to the A2 activity and cycling park, I think it is a wonderful idea to have a park of this type and hope the idea of footpaths and cycle tracks will be kept to.
My objections are mainly about using a polluted area as a park.
The park is to be next to a very busy motorway which is becoming heavier with traffic as time passes.
Why would you site a park next to all of these traffic fumes? What happens if a car runs off the road?
I have lived near to the A2 for most of my adult life so I know what the quality of air is like.
This was one of the reasons why they moved the A2 away from a populated area in the first place.
Why on earth would you want your children to play in an area like this? If the park goes ahead an area which already has an questionable amount of pollution in it will be made worse.
The amount of traffic expected to use this park runs into the hundreds.
When I attended the meeting about it, I asked: “What about motorbikes using this park?”
They could not guarantee motorbikes would not access the park and if they did there would be very little they could do to stop them.
The park will be floodlit and although it will use “low lighting”, whatever this is, we will not only have pollution nuisance but also light nuisance.
They are also talking about using the park for festivals, setting up climbing walls, indoor bowls, club meeting areas, coffee shops and a bar.
I do not understand why the site cannot be kept as a green area.
