IT WAS good to see Bexley chief executive Will Tuckley responding to a News Shopper story (Staff Volunteered To Go In Reorganisation, Letters, October 22).
What is strange is why he felt the need to defend the reason why two senior executives are leaving.
Taking early retirement was an opportunity which would not be available to the majority working in the private sector. The majority would not receive a generous retirement package and gold-plated pension.
The reason given for the departure of the two senior officers is yet another reorganisation.
How many reorganisations over the past 40 years have been undertaken quoting similar reasons?
How many millions has it cost, either through council tax or general taxation? Are services better?
Mr Tuckley receives a salary in the range of £157,000 to £180,000 with the possibility of progression through outstanding performance to £203,391.
What residents would really like from him is a weekly update on what he has personally done to assist residents in Bexley and a detailed justification as to why he is worth a potential salary of £203,391.
