IT IS a national disgrace we do not allow, as a matter of course, retired Gurkhas to settle in the UK.
These men have served this country with great distinction.
They punch far above their weight in any conflict, show great loyalty and often pay the ultimate sacrifice.
Among these people it is a great honour to serve in the British Army.
Those who have served with them hold them in high esteem and will testify they do credit to the uniform they wear.
After 25 years of putting their lives on the line for our country, it is against all natural justice to send them home.
If they have not earned the right to reside here then who has?
Contrast these honourable men with people who spout hate against this country while claiming every benefit they can get their hands on and the protection of the state they would like to destroy.
I accept the principle we cannot send someone home or allow their extradition if it is feared they may be tortured.
However, what kind of message do we send when we treat someone who hates us with charity and then repay our most loyal friends with such contempt?
