WASTE OF MONEY: In regard to the letter about the traffic lights in Chinbrook Road (Little Thought Put Into Traffic Lights, News Shopper, October 1), I have lived in Grove Park for the past 20 years and traffic has always been a problem. It seems to have got worse at the traffic lights since the yellow box junction was removed. Why has it not been put back? Last year the council put in traffic-calming measures but these have made no difference in terms of the speed of the traffic. In fact they have made it worse for residents as buses and heavy lorries do not slow down, causing our houses to vibrate, especially in the mornings. In my opinion putting in these traffic-calming measures has been a waste of public money.

NOT ALL THE SAME: After reading the letter Online GP Booking Unfair To The Elderly (News Shopper, October 1), I felt I had to write to say not all GPs have the same system and not all over 65s are unable to use a computer. I for one use my computer all the time, often to make appointments, and I am 67. My GP in Chislehurst does have some appointments available online but none of these are for “same day” or emergency appointments. In those cases you still have to phone or call into the surgery.

SO WRITE: Further to PJ Little’s letter regarding local writers and his comment about Enid Blyton (Tributes To Great Writers Doing Wells, News Shopper, October 1), a blue plaque is on the house in which she lived in Shortlands Road, but a stronger link to her is the thatched house opposite Shortlands station.

This is known to the older generation of locals as Noddy’s Cottage, in the belief it provided the inspiration for her stories.

John Carter, Shortlands

FANTASTIC HOSPITAL: I am writing to congratulate the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough. I could not fault the care and attention they gave me after my major surgery and how clean it was. The food was good too. There is so much bad press these days, so a little bit of good news does not go amiss.

C Gardiner, Orpington

LEADING THE WAY: I have found out from friends News Shopper no longer runs advertisements for personal services, massage and so on. I would just like to say well done. I hope other newspapers follow your lead.
