NAPPY CHANGE: The story Not Happy With Nappy Collection (News Shopper, September 24) highlights the problem with disposable nappies and should get the council and residents working together for a solution.
Unfortunately, with so many things relating to recycling, the onus is on the residents, not the council, manufacturers or waste management industry.
In the 21st Century it should be possible to produce disposable nappies which can be recycled.
Why are local authorities and manufacturers not work together to produce such a nappy?
Bexley’s answer to disposable nappies is to blame the parents and carers and push the real nappy angle.
Local authorities fail to mention a report published by the Environment Agency in May 2005 which concluded when taking all factors into consideration there was little difference between the types of nappy.
Local authorities respond to EU and government directives which ultimately cause the residents more problems while council tax and other public funding continue to rise.
