RAISING FEARS: I was concerned to read the phrase "the flow of blood on our streets" in your Voices Against Violence campaign (News Shopper, July 16).This is irresponsible, misleading and will raise fears. There is no "flow of blood on our streets". Enoch Powell was similarly wrong when he warned of "rivers of blood" as a result of immigration. I support the campaign but over-dramatising the issue makes it harder to have a debate about pragmatic solutions.

BIN PROBLEMS: I found my food and garden waste bin crawling with maggots. It had not been collected due to industrial action. When I called Greenwich Council, the woman I spoke to told me she had the same problem. I was told to wash the bin out. But bleach does not get rid of the maggots, it only reduces them. Rats have been seen in the area too. Does anyone know how to deal with this?
