Letter to the editor: I object to Ikea’s plan for a superstore on the Greenwich Peninsula on the grounds that it is socially and environmentally unsustainable.
Many councillors and locals, in rare cross-party agreement, also think the Greenwich Peninsula is the wrong place for a 33,000sqm Ikeasuperstore, and some spoke against the proposed development at the planning meeting.
Residents have since tried to approach their councillors for help in challenging the terms of the application, but have been told there is nothing they can do since outline planning permission has already been granted.
However a leading planning barrister at Landmark Chambers has advised us this is incorrect.
Now it is clarified this is not a legacy decision, I request Greenwich Council direct its planning officers to call an immediate halt to this application.
