Letter to the Editor: I would like to endorse Phil Crane’s letter (Drivers will not benefit, November 19).
He highlighted, much more elegantly than I could, all the problems with the ever-increasing toll charges and congestion of this area.
In a separate article elsewhere Patrick Grafton-Green explains the misery still to come as barriers are removed (Crossing over to a new era, November 19).
I really cannot see how removing the barriers will speed up the flow by any significant amount.
Perhaps the idea is to lose jobs so that profit may be maximised?
If this is so, could someone please explain how a large lorry from the Continent, delivering to, say, Birmingham and returning will be charged?
Many use trade plates, and if they realise that there is no physical check at the crossing, why not make up a spare set?
I am a local and currently have a local Dart Tag account.
Earlier this month I received an email advising that my account would be taken over by Dart Charge at the end of the month.
This email claimed that I could “migrate” my account via a website to Dart Charge.
This proved impossible – I think that there was a fault on the site – so I emailed my query (what to do next) to Dart Charge.
I enclosed my details, current account number and telephone number.
As yet I have no confirmation from Dart Charge that anything has been done – and less than a week to go.
I do have a telephone number for Dart Charge, but prefer email since that gives me a written record of any communication.
I am very apprehensive that more chaos is very possible.
PETER SMITH, Dartford
