Letter to the editor: It is all very well for the great and good of Lewisham to dismiss statistics indicating the borough is the least peaceful in the UK (Hands Off Our Town, News Shopper, May 1).

It is often asserted good moral behaviour is associated with religious practice and I have heard the Mayor say he welcomes hearing from faith groups.

Lewisham has a higher than national average of religious observance.

So how come the poor result from this report for 2003 to 2012? Maybe a bit of non-religious humanism could help?
