Letter to the editor: Surely it is about time Kent County Council (KCC) was abolished as it is just a layer of local government.

Its sell-by date expired long ago. Has it ever represented people in the area?

Today, in the 21st century, it is a well-paid, lucrative post to aspire to — so there is no need to find a real job as it provides a good living in its own right.

More so when candidates are getting an income from also being councillors in Kent’s boroughs or towns.

We appear in the forthcoming elections to have a good example.

One ward in Dartford has put up a candidate who lives in Gravesham and is also a Gravesham councillor.

Apparently said candidate failed to get selected for the KCC seat in Gravesham.

It begs the question: is a seat on the KCC such a well-paid job said candidate is prepared to try for the seat in Dartford to represent Dartford people and their issues while retaining his seat as a Gravesham councillor?

Isn’t it a conflict of interest?
