Letter to the editor: We fully support the changes to the welfare and housing benefit system.
The benefit cap is needed.
Excluding the seriously ill and the disabled, why should other people who do not work earn more than those who do work and pay full council tax, rent and bills?
If you’re a single person or a childless couple who work full-time you get no help at all.
If you’re a parent you get child benefit to pay towards your children’s food and clothing.
So why do so many children remain in poverty in the UK?
This money does need to go to the child for food and clothing and should not be spent on other things.
We do need a much fairer welfare system and the benefit cap will lead towards this.
