Letter to the editor: It is with great sadness I read the famous towers in Larner Road are being pulled down after 40 years.
So many memories, some good, some bad, but all recollections of events which have made me stronger as a man, a husband and a father.
I remember playing football on a concrete pitch outside one of the taller blocks.
We used cars as touchlines and tin cans for goalposts, while my mum and dad dangled out from the window watching me below.
Meanwhile, the police would stop by every once in a while to check everything was okay.
It’s always had a bit of a rough reputation but my time there was nothing but enjoyable.
There was a real community spirit which is so rare these days.
