Letter to the editor: Regarding the letter (Lack Of Consultation With The Community, News Shopper, April 3).

Mr Wheeler refers to the changes introduced by the coalition government on Council Tax Benefit and the Greenwich Law Centre, with which he was associated.

Perhaps it is only Mr Wheeler who has missed the fact benefit changes have been brought in by the government.

In first cutting council tax benefit by 10 per cent, the government has transferred responsibility to councils to implement these cuts.

It is simply not credible nor practical for the council to absorb the £2.3m loss (and rising) this represents.

Regarding the Greenwich Law Centre, it is nonsense to suggest this was not consulted upon.

The council commissioned independent legal advice services and the contract for these services was awarded to the strongest bidder.

Finally, it is not my boast Greenwich is simply the best.

The Council of the Year award is determined entirely by external arbiters.
