Letter to the editor: Regarding Dr Bradford’s letter (Blackheath Society View Is Stunning, News Shopper, April 3), the existing house was designed and built by its late owner and is a wonderful contribution to our conservation area in Blackheath.

The proposed demolition of this lovely house, to be replaced by two buildings with 10 bedrooms, is typical of the commercially- driven mindset in our area at the present time.

Demolishing our heritage is not the right way to answer the housing shortage problem.

I am astonished to read the Blackheath Society is supporting this planning application.

I would greatly appreciate an explanation.

DR PHILIP HARRIS, Langton Way, Blackheath
