Letter to the editor: I would like to thank Evelyn ward people who voted for me and People Before Profit and the many helpers who manned polling stations for me until 10pm.
I have stood up for Deptford for the past 50 years and will continue to fight against the privatisation agenda and cuts of both this government and the Labour Council, which at a time of real hardship, has chosen to put up rents and council tax, when many councils have frozen them.
Labour may have won this bye-election but the low turnout cannot give it comfort.
Should it win in 2015, it will not stop the bedroom tax, Lewisham Hospital Closure plans, universal credit or privatisation of the NHS.
While Labour promises all things to all people, People Before Profit campaigns and stands up for people.
Barbara Raymond, Lewisham People Before Profit
