The Queen’s staff are reportedly “angry” over the “slap in the face” of the alleged Downing Street Christmas party last year.

Royal staff have hit out at politicians after Her Majesty was left to sit on her own during the funeral of Prince Philip earlier this year, her husband of more than 70 years.

Pictures of the Queen sat alone in April pulled on the heartstrings of the nation as Her Majesty adhered to Covid measures at the time.

Plans that had been in place for years were scaled back as just 30 mourners attended the funeral.

Speaking to The Mirror, royal staff explained how “sacrifices were made from the very top all the way down,” amid the coronavirus pandemic and those sacrifices have now been left “worthless” according to employees at the Palace.

“It would be a gross understatement to say people are angry,” one source said.

“Many missed Christmas, birthdays, other special occasions and weeks on end away from their families.

“But it was all in the spirit it was for the greater good and we were doing our bit.

“It’s a slap in the face for anyone frankly.”

The controversy led to the resignation of Boris Johnson’s former advisor  Allegra Stratton.

Stratton offered her “profound apologies” in an emotional statement after footage emerged of her joking about a Downing Street Christmas party.

Despite the resignation, Downing Street maintains that the Christmas parties did not happen.

Health Secretary has said he is “not quite sure” why Stratton decided to resign after a video showed her joking about the alleged party.
