Crime scene 'open and active' following Greenwich stabbing

This comes after senior police warning of a "pressure cooker" situation following the wave of violence which could result in more serious disorder.

Officers and paramedics were called to reports of men fighting in Barge Walk in the Greenwich Peninsula at around 4:23pm on Wednesday, June 2.

Video has since emerged of four men armed with knives and machetes slashing at each other in a disturbing brawl.

A man in his 30s was found suffering from stab injuries, and he was rushed to hospital where he is in a critical condition.

Met Police called it a "shocking incident that occurred in broad daylight outside people's homes," and an appeal for witnesses an information has been launched.

In an update, Greenwich Met Police said they wanted to "reassure members of the community" that there will be an increase in police presence due to the 'serious assault'.

More locally, Greenwich Peninsula officers have said the crime scene at Barge Walk is "still open and active."

"Officers appreciate the co-operation from local residents, and are on hand during the night should there be any further concerns or questions. Extra patrols are in place."

Following the incident, Met Police Inspector Nutter has now authorised a Section 60 stop and search order covering a large section of the borough, adding on to a previous order authorised yesterday.

Met Police have authorised a Section 60 order in the area.

The Section 60 order runs from 5pm on June 3 to 8am on June 4, and Greenwich Met Police say extra police officers will be on duty in the direct area.
